Se você está começando a estudar inglês agora provavelmente já deve ter encontrado algumas perguntas cujas respostas são muito livres, como “o que você acha de…” ou “por que…”. Essas perguntas são conhecidas como “WH Questions”, porque todas elas possuem as letras WH e exigem uma resposta mais elaborada (e não simplesmente “sim” ou “não”).
Primeiro, vamos conversar sobre a estrutura desse tipo de pergunta. Você já deve ter visto que as perguntas em inglês começam com um verbo auxiliar, como do, did, will, would, etc, e logo em seguida vêm uma pessoa e um verbo. Por exemplo:
Did you study yesterday?
Do they live in São Paulo?
Will she visit the client?
Contudo, quando usamos uma WH Question, ela deve vir no começo, antes mesmo do verbo auxiliar, e o significado da pergunta mudará por completo. Veja nos exemplos a seguir o que significa cada uma das WH Questions, anote em seu caderno e pratique bastante! Dica: tente elaborar uma resposta para cada uma das perguntas dos exemplos.

WHICH – o que, qual
Cuidado para não confundir com “what”: você sempre usará “which” quando houver opções para a pessoa escolher.
Which do you prefer, English or Spanish?
Which did you study yesterday, Science or Math?
Which is your favorite movie from The Avengers series? (Aqui as opções estão implícitas, e ainda assim são opções limitadas)
